More Than 40 Fujian Shoe Enterprises Should Join Hands To Deal With Anti-Dumping

Since October 7, 2006, the EU has imposed an anti-dumping duty of 2 years and 16.5% on leather shoes in China.

At the moment when the domestic leather shoes industry is about to get a gasp, the European Union has recently introduced the "sunset review" to the anti-dumping measures of leather shoes made by China and Vietnam.

This means that the EU anti-dumping duties on Chinese leather shoes will be extended by 16.5%.

"Two years, this war is not over yet!"

Last Friday, more than 40 shoe manufacturers in the province participated in the "sunset review" coordination meeting of EU China leather shoes anti-dumping held in Quanzhou, and jointly discussed countermeasures.

According to Pan Yangzheng, Deputy Secretary General of Fujian footwear and import and Export Chamber of Commerce, two years of anti-dumping measures, coupled with rising costs and fierce competition, China's footwear industry has suffered a lot and suffered huge losses.

China's exports to the EU dropped from 220 million in 2003 to 16 thousand and 400 in 2007.

Among them, the loss of our province is particularly heavy. According to Fuzhou customs statistics, in 2007, Fujian exported 30 million pairs of leather shoes to the EU, down 27.1% from the same period last year, and exported 10 million pairs of leather shoes in the first half of 2008, down 30.4% compared with the same period last year.

Regarding the EU's anti dumping stick, at the coordination meeting, the head of the Fair Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce said that enterprises have entered the "sunset review" stage, which is both a challenge and an opportunity. Enterprises should actively unite to take part in anti-dumping "sunset review".

Pan Yangzheng disclosed that in 2006, a total of 163 involved enterprises in China actively responded, accounting for more than 90% of the total export volume, including the large enterprises such as Fu Kui bird and Hengtai in our province.

According to the participating enterprises such as the rich bird and Putian three shoe industry, the EU footwear industry is at the high end of the global supply chain, and has obvious advantages in design, management, quality control and technological innovation. Its products occupy the international high-end market.

In fact, China's leather shoes imported from the EU, especially Italy and Spain have been on the rise in recent years. Many famous brands in Italy and Spain have developed smoothly with Chinese enterprises, providing high-quality products for China's high-end consumer market. This shows that the EU's footwear industry has a competitive advantage, and there is no need to continue to use trade friction.
